If I could talk to the author Latifa i would ask her how her and her family could go through such a horrible time in their lives. Why didn't she leave sooner? Did at anytime she wish that she was a guy , because of the way women were ostracized and looked down upon . From them not being able to hold jobs , to not being able to go to school , even to them not being able to leave their house without a male with them . Than I would ask about the way life in Kabul was once, were there kids running freely not having a care in the world? And even how did she feel when the Taliban made the rules about having no pets and having to give up her beloved canary that song countless numbers of songs to her? When did it finally hit her that the Taliban had taken over , was it when she saw the President’s body dangling from a window with cigarettes in his mouth and money in his pocket , or when her mom had to take down the gun that had hung on her wall for many years. The gun her mothers dad had given to her when he once fought in war , just because the Taliban didn’t agree with other people having guns besides them ? Or was it when she couldn’t own a radio or listen to anything or anyone except the Taliban? When did it hit her that these people weren’t playing and that they would be a part of her life for the next 5 years? When she woke up they would be there, when she tried to pray and read the Quran they would be reading it for her (if they let her). That the Taliban weren’t just people that she once read about or heard about on the radio , but they were a group that she experienced first hand .
Grotesque
Definition : to be bizarre ; Or have shame Sentence from the book : The TALLLIBAN had hung their bodies, forcing people to look at them dangling grotesquely. My Sentence : The actors wore dark capes and grotesque masks. gro·tesque·ly adverb gro·tesque·ness noun Etomology : Grotesque - The reason i chose to do my satire project on short hand texting was because i feel alot of people mispell words in text and try to cover it up by saying they didnt feel like typing the word when that honestly isnt the case. They just can't spell ! Every website that i went to dealing with text abbreviations talked about how every individual person tries to come up with their own abbreviations that's why there are so many different ones. My opinion on the matter is that you should either spell out the complete word or don't text the person at all . Texting is an alternate form of communication but some people just use it as a handicap /crutch . I chose to do a rap so everyone would better understand the point that i was trying to convey . When i wrote my rap i wrote the entire thing using " text slang" or text abbreviations. My satire was made for people of my age that would understand exactly what i was saying without having to look all of the abbreviations up for the words i used. When i flipped the meaning of text messaging and the abbreviations and made it seem like people who use text messaging in this form are illiterate or stupid and that is the definition of what a satire does to point out the weakens of someone to make a greater or more serious point.
I am currently reading My Forbidden Face by Latifa . This is a story based on her life being captured by the Taliban and the things that she had to do. Before I started reading this book I knew the Taliban were a crucial group of people who hazed women in particular , but I didn’t know to what extreme . When you look at the cover the first thing is a picture of a women ( you think it’s a women ) covered in her native dress but where the eye and nose part is more like some kind of net or barricade . When I first saw the picture I got the feeling that this girl was being trapped but I didn’t know to what extent . I than begin reading the first two chapters of the book and learn Latifa is trapped in this kind of clothing that would usually be to pray in as punishment by the Taliban .
The epigram in the book is somewhat of a short poem around 3 to 5 lines talking about conformity. How you should submit to anything or anyone because once you do you no longer have what makes you ,you .Latifa has obviously touched many lives and hearts with this book by I think speaking out and telling everyone the unfathomable things that the Taliban pt her threw and how she escaped it. She has many good reviews from Entertainment Weekly even to Publishers weekly . Stating how “This memoir is one instance where a thousand words are worth more than any picture ’’. In my personal opinion I think the book is somewhat of an astringent. It leaves sour taste in your mouth about the Taliban as a whole . Just because of the brutal things they do women who are their prisoners’. They have no rights and their eyes and are only useful for one thing sex. But , in a lighter sense the book shows how women back than had to coalesce with each other , whether they knew each other or not to try and escape the Taliban and to not conform to their ways . Can u spell....lmk... cuz lookin @ my phon.. I CAN tell U r like me, u cant spell tell me Text Messaging as we know it is called Short Message Service or SMS. The name or acronym SMS shows that from the beginning , the idea was to shorten words and our way of communicating. The phone, web or mobile communications are the tools that are used for SMS. Communication protocols standardization allows text exchange of short text messages between mobile phone, computers and other technical devices. The text messaging data application is the most widely used in the world with 2.4 billion users which equals about 74% of all mobile phone users. Short Message Service originated from radio telegraphy in radio pagers using standardized phone protocols which was defined worldwide as part of the Global System for Mobile Communications or GSM. The GSM was standardized in 1985 as a way to send text messaging but it could only hold 160 characters. Today, the phone standardization has spread to other mobile technologies such as satellite and land line networks. Most text messages are sent mobile-to-mobile although we have other technologies that we can use to send short message service. The first text message was sent over the GSM network in the United Kingdom on December 3, 1992 from Neil Papworth using a personal computer. He sent the SMS to Richard Jarvis with the text message "Merry Christmas". The first commercial text was sent in Sweden in 1993. The first company to offer SMS to consumers was Radiolinja in Finland in 1993. Most GSM mobile phones did not support SMS but Nokia GSM phone line supported user-ending of SMS text messaging. Growth was slow with customers sending 0.4 messages per month. One of the reasons the adaption to SMS text messaging was slow was because operators were slow to set up charging systems. This issue was eliminated and by the end of 2000 the average number of messages reached 35 per user per month. In 2006 on Christmas Day over 205 text million were sent in the United Kingdom alone. The above speaks about the history of Short Message Service or Text Messaging. I am going to fast forward to year 2011. I have known mobile phones since I was a kid and I have had a cellular phone since I was in the third grade at the age of 8. I do not remember, at the age of 8, using text messaging, I guess because I was learning English at the time or because my mom's carrier did not have it as a product offering or because my mom was not going to pay the additional charges. However, now that I am a teen in high school, text messaging is the way of life. Text messaging serves several purposes for me. It allows me to communicate without everyone around me hearing my message or conversation. It also allows me to send and say some things that I may not have verbalized to someone. And lastly text messaging allows me to use incorrect English because I am trying to send a message quickly or because I am lazy. In the spirit of this satire project in which I must write my investigative problem with 250-300 words, I will not use text slang, lingo or misspellings. In the year of 2011, some feel that text messaging has hurt our generation, which is America's future. We text words with omitted letters because we cannot spell the word or because we are trying to send the message quickly and because a text message is a SMS, short message service, we just try to omit some letters, which lead to shorter words. Are we dumb or is it just that it does not take all of those letters to get our message across? Maybe I was the last of the young people that learned how to spell and not have text messaging interference with my learning process in my English class. But given my English education and progress but I feel that text messaging has really become addictive and I find myself writing papers and talking to friends on the phone using text lingo or slang. I just gave my opinion, now I will present two divergent opinions. " In my opinion, it was a mistake for text messaging to be incorporated with cell phones because people have become lazy, using abbreviations, acronyms and Internet slang instead of using correct spelling and grammar. I don't know what or who's responsible, but the introduction of kids cell phones has made matters even worse. This is leading to a degradation of languages worldwide and if you haven't noticed, you're living under a rock."
"CONTRARY to popular belief, the use of text message abbreviations is linked positively with literacy achievements, according to work carried out by researchers at Coventry University. Mrs Beverly Plester and Dr Clare Wood presented the findings of their research, conducted with 11-year- old children, at the British Psychological Society's Developmental Section Annual Conference at the Royal Holloway, University of London. The study explored how the use of text abbreviations might be related to the skills children need in reading and writing." Bibliography Mail, Birmingham. No matter how or why you got here, you’re here pregnant. A few moments of pleasure can lead to 9 months of you dealing with bloated, swollen, irritable and nauseous. Whether it was because you thought you were in love, your boyfriend talked you into it or just because you were curious the deed is done and you’re pregnant. My book, “You look too young to be a Mom” by Deborah Davis is a diary of teenage mothers and the challenges they faced once they found out they were expecting a child. In the book Davis teaches readers that things aren’t always as they appear and challenges can sometimes strengthen you and make you better prepared for a successful life. I define success as “when you overcome challenges in life.” I have numerous goals for my life. My goal right now is to graduate high school in the top 10% of my class. Although that is my goal I realize that it will not come easy. Achieving goals requires dedication and persistence and for some reason there always seems to be something working against what you are trying to do. The biggest barrier I must overcome to achieve my goal is temptation. I must consistently stay focused and limit leisure time to after I complete my assignments. Barriers can also come in the form of people. My book “You look too young to be a mom” shows the importance of being resilient and not letting what others think keep you from your dreams. Being pregnant at a young age is a trial in itself, overcoming that barrier and still going after your dreams, is a great accomplishment. People aren’t always barriers; they can also be great sources to help you succeed. Wes Moore, a new successful author hasn’t always had an easy life. In his book he talks about the great influence his mom played in his success. She thought him to overcome his recidivism and to not let his troubled past recapitulate. His article taught me that your past doesn’t have to determine your future. My book is arranged in sequential order from discovering that they were pregnant to pregnancy and then post pregnancy. I greatly enjoyed reading this book. The writing style in the book is powerful. The author uses connotation to help the reader to truly identify with the characters in the book. One example was dealing with Jennifer, a teen mom featured in the book, when she was going through a rough period during her pregnancy. Jennifer was extremely sad as she was telling her mother that she was pregnant. Her mom replies by saying, “weeping doesn’t make the baby go away; we just have to deal with it” (Davis 12). Using the word weeping helped me to imagine how sad she must have been. Most would have used crying but weeping was much more descriptive and showed how remorseful Jennifer was. This book thought me many lessons. It taught me that you shouldn’t let your “significant other” or anyone for that matter determine your happiness or success. Sex should not be the deciding factor in your relationship, do it when you are ready. No one is perfect; we should be more accepting of people’s mistakes and not judge. Wes Moore’s article taught me that you can do whatever you set your mind to. It also taught me that people deserve a second chance. Reading this book and article have given me a new outlook on life. I encourage you to read them, I’m sure they will greatly impact yours. They teach you to show compassion to those in situations that don’t seem ideal, help them while you can, and never think lesser of them. In conclusion, no matter what path you take in life or what detours the road may bring, your destination can still be success. I cry not because im sad or im hurt.
I cry because of what ust to be , what isnt , and what can never be again I cry because i understand. I cry because everything else in my life can't seem to go right . I cry because thats all i know how to do . I cry because i can't say what i want . How do i tell you what happened ? How do i tell you why it happened ? It was a mistake , i didn't think my life would stop here . My heart is telling me everything is alright , when my mind isn't . Forget how do i face you , how do i face myself. Knowing what i know , we know , she knows. How do i take myself out of my body and think about what i would do How do you be strong , when weakness is easy ? How do you not cry . How do you not shed a tear . How do you sit there in that same seat , and smile . How ? Why ? If teardrops could speak they would understand why . They could feel my pain and cry . They would tell me to let it out They would let my teardrops roll. This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
